Trouble. Have you been there? It is personal. Feels unmanageable and unsurmountable. Under pressure, trouble can make us believe we are out of options, out of time, and out of reach. Sometimes, the gravity of what we are dealing with commands silence and forces an unholy disconnect from our divine strength.  

God promised that in the day of trouble, there is shelter. The Lord is near. Psalm 107 reminds us that God is with us in our trouble. Thank you, God. 

How do we get anchored when facing trouble? Our voice. Cry out. Speak forth. “Help me. I am hurting. I am hungry. I am lost. I am empty. I am oppressed. God, this is my day of trouble.” Friends, the God who hears will come and not delay. This psalm recounts the attentive and active response given to the voice of the troubled. When those in trouble cried out, they were rescued from distress – the anguish that demands our captivity. 

Troubled people, “let’s not go there.” Together, we look just beyond this trouble and cry out to a compassionate and merciful God.  We will not allow trouble to stand between us.  Today we speak audibly to resist trouble’s insinuation that we stand in judgement. God’s redemptive plans has us instead seated with Christ in the heavenly realms. God sent forth the Word to heal us. Jesus. Hallelujah, the Lord brought love and light into the world. Let the redeemed of the Lord “say so!”
